Detailed configuration of a blocking level.
1. Level Name
Name of this level which will also be displayed in the "User-computer table".
2. Level Desc
Simple description of this level.
3. Web
Configuation of blocking web usage.
3.1 Block web surfing
Web surfing will be blocked.
3.2 Block web posting of exceed size
Web posting size larger than this will be blocked.
3.3 Block uploading files via web page
Blocking uploading files from a web page.
3.4 Enable Website black/white list
This option enables a website black/white list for this level. A black/white list can be used for filtering certain content.
3.5 Enable web category rule
This option enables a web category rule for this level which can filter websites by categories.
3.6 Display a deny page when being blocked
When used, the users will see this page when it is been blocked. Otherwise, it will see "Page Can not be displayed".
4. Messengers
4.1 Block chatting software
Choose messengers you want to block. WFilter blocks messengers based on protocols, not on program names.
As WFilter uses a passby filter technical which can only block TCP protocols, you need to block certain UDP ports in your router for some software.
For example, if you want to block QQ, you must choose "Block QQ" in WFilter and also block UDP port 8000 and 8001 in the router.
4.2 Enable QQ black/white list
This option enables a QQ black/white list which can filter QQ messenger by messenger account.
4.2 Enable MSN black/white list
This option enables a MSN black/white list which can filter MSN messenger by messenger account.
4.2 Enable Yahoo! black/white list
This option enables a Yahoo! black/white list which can filter Yahoo! messenger by messenger account.
4.2 Enable AIM/ICQ black/white list
This option enables an AIM/ICQ black/white list which can filter AIM/ICQ messenger by messenger account. Notice: AIM and ICQ use the same protocol.
5. Emails
Blocking emails sent or received by client software(such as "Outlook Express"). To block web email, you need to block web posting or block certain websites.
5.1 Block Send Mail
Block SMTP sending.
5.2 Block Recv Mail
Block receiving emails(POP3).
5.3 Enable Black/white List for Local Email Senders
This option enables an email black/white list which can filter sending emails by local email account.
5.4 Enable Black/White List for "To" addresses of Email Sending
This option enables an email black/white list which can filter sending to emails account.
5.5 Enable Black/White List for Local Receiver
This option enables an email black/white list which can filter local email accounts from receiving emails..
6. File Transfers
6.1 Block file transfers software
Choose file transfers you want to block. WFilter does blocking based on protocols, not on program names.
6.2 Enable File extension black/white list for web downloading
This option enables a file extension black/white list which can filter downloading files from websites.
7. P2P
Choose p2p protocols you want to block. WFilter does blocking based on protocols, not on program names. Notice, different software might has different effect: some might can not login while some just can not download.
8. Games and Stock
Choose game and stock protocols you want to block.
9. Streaming
Choose online streaming protocols you want to block.
10. Others
For blocking others not in above categories or unknown protocols.
11. Blocking Time
Blocking time periods, such as "8:00-12:00,14:00-18:00". Out of the time periods, the monitor system will use the backup blocking level.
Notice
1. WFilter can not block UDP traffics. If you need to block UDP traffic, you need to change route/firewall settings. For example: QQ use both TCP and UDP, if you want to block QQ, you must choose "Block QQ" in WFilter and also block UDP port 8000 and 8001 in the router.
2. If you want to use Black/White list, make sure you do not block certain protocols. For example: If you choose both "Block surfing" and "Customilze web access rules", all web surfing will be blocked and "Customilze web access rules" is useless.
3. Some software use HTTP and HTTPS protocol to communicate, so blocking HTTP or HTTPS will make some software unworkable.
4. Blocking p2p software can not block files on transfer, only new file transfer will be blocked.
5. MSN will establish file transfer connections on running, so you need to sign off and sign in msn again for blocking msn file transfer to take effect.
