Detailed settings of a blocking level.
1. Level Name
Name of this blocking level.
2. Level Desc
Description of this blocking level.
3. Web
Settings of blocking web activities.
- "Block web surfing": All web surfing activity will be blocked.
- "Block web posting when posting size exceeds limit": Web posting size larger than limit will be blocked.
- "Block uploading files via web pages": Blocking uploading files on web pages.
- "Enable Website black/white list": this option enables a website black/white list for this level. A black/white list can be used for filtering certain websites.
- "Enable URL Keywords Filtering": filter webpages by url keywords.
- "Enable Website Category Filtering": this option enables a web category rule which can filter websites based on categories.
- "Display a denial page when being blocked": when enabled, users will see a denial page when being blocked.
- "Domain/IP Exception List": websites, ip addresses and ports in this list will not be blocked.
- One domain per line, wildcards(* ?) are supported. Do not include " http://", eg: *.imfirewall.us.
- One ip address per line(no wildcard), eg: 192.168.1.20
- IP address:port, eg: 192.168.1.20:80. One wildcard is allowed for either ip address or port. eg: "192.168.1.20:*" or "*.80".
4. Messengers
- "Block Messenger Protocols": choose messenger protocols you want to block. WFilter blocks messengers based on protocols, not on the program names.
- "Enable QQ black/white list": this option enables a QQ black/white list which can filter QQ messenger based on QQ account.
- "Enable MSN black/white list": this option enables a MSN black/white list which can filter MSN(Live) messenger based on MSN(Live) account.
- "Enable Yahoo! black/white list": this option enables a Yahoo! black/white list which can filter Yahoo! messenger based on Yahoo! account.
- "Enable ICQ black/white list": this option enables an ICQ black/white list which can filter ICQ messenger by messenger accounts.
5. Emails
Blocking outgoing/incoming emails.
5.1 SMTP Control
- "None" -- no smtp control.
- "Block sending emails with attachment(s)" -- outgoing emails with attachment(s) will be blocked.
- "Block sending emails" -- SMTP protocol will be blocked.
5.2 Block Web Emails
"Block Web Emails" will block the "Web-based Email" website category.
5.3 Enable Black/white List for Local Email Senders
This option enables email black/white lists which can filter sending emails based on local email accounts.
5.4 Enable Black/White List for "To" addresses of Email Sending
This option enables black/white lists which can filter "Send To" email addresses for outgoing emails.
5.5 Enable Black/White List for Local Receiver
This option enables black/white lists which can filter local email accounts from receiving emails.
6. File Transfers
- Block file transfer protocols: choose the file transfer protocols which you want to block.
- "Web Downloading When File Size Exceeds Limit": downloading of large files will be blocked.
- "Enable File extension black/white list for web downloading": this option enables a file extension black/white list which can filter downloading files from websites.
7. P2P
P2P protocols to be blocked. Different software might has different effect: some might can not login while some just can not download.
8. Games and Stock
Choose game and stock protocols you want to block.
9. Streaming
Choose online streaming protocols you want to block.
"Block online HTTP Video and Downloading of Video Files" will block downloading of video files and video mime types from websites.
10. Bandwidth Management
- "Bandwidth Management": when the accumulative bandwidth in a certain period of time exceeds the threshold, certain protocols will be blocked. Only new connections of certain protocols will be blocked. Established connections will not be killed. Only computers applied with this blocking level will be affected.
- "Realtime Bandwidth Management": when the entire network traffic exceeds certain percents, new connections of certain protocols will be blocked. Only computers applied with this blocking level will be affected.
- "Limit Maximum Concurrent TCP Connections": when the concurrent tcp connections number exceeds the limit, new connections will be blocked. Limit the concurrent tcp connections can limit bandwidth usage effectively, however, if you limit the maximum connections to less than 5, web surfing of websites might be influenced.
- "Block Multi-threads Downloading": block HTTP multi-threads downloading.
11. Others
- "Block Protocols Unknown to WFilter": WFilter is designed to support most common protocols, however it is unavoidable that there have protocols unknown to WFilter.
- "Enable HTTPS Black/White List": enable "HTTPS Black/White List" will enable filtering of SSL connections by TLS common name(usually the domain name).
12. Blocking Time
- Time periods for this level to take effect, multiple time periods are separated by commas, such as "08:00-12:00,14:00-18:00".
- "Out of Time Periods": Policy applied when out of the time periods. With this option, you can set different blocking levels for working time and non-working time.
